Can I send my luggage ahead instead of carrying it?
Short answer
Yes, but through the railway rather than the hotel. China Railway runs a luggage service at 19 stations, booked in the 12306 app.
It is built around trains, not hotels
The service is China Railway's, called "Easy Travel", and it runs at 19 stations — Beijing West and Beijing South, Shanghai and Shanghai Hongqiao, Hangzhou, Hefei South, Guangzhou South, Shenzhen North, Changsha South, Chengdu East and West, and a run of Yunnan stations including Kunming, Dali, Lijiang and Xishuangbanna.
That shape matters. This is not a courier taking your bag from one hotel to another; it is a railway moving your bag on the same journey you are taking.
Two directions, two booking windows
Door-to-station means staff collect the bag from wherever you are and bring it to your departure station. Book that between 48 hours and 4 hours before the train leaves.
Station-to-door is the return leg: staff take the bag from your arrival platform or an in-station luggage counter and deliver it where you want it. Book that between 24 hours and 1 hour before the train arrives.
How to arrange it
Booking goes through the Railway 12306 app or its WeChat mini-program, with phone lines on 12306 and 95572 as the fallback. Pricing is per piece, with a higher tier for the version that includes platform handling.
Because it is tied to a specific train, this is a service to arrange while you are booking the ticket rather than something to remember on the morning of travel.
Good to know
- Tied to a specific train — arrange it when you book the ticket
- Door-to-station closes 4 hours before departure
- Booked in the Railway 12306 app, not through your hotel
